Divorce/Annulment/Legal Separation A divorce, annulment, and legal separation are considered qualifying life events, which makes your spouse no longer eligible for coverage. If coverage of a benefit ends for your former spouse and/or stepchildren due to qualified life event, your former spouse and/or stepchildren may be eligible for a temporary continuation of coverage through COBRA. Click here for more information on COBRA. Click here to view the Summary Plan Descriptions for each of American Greeting’s Benefit Plans for more details on the impact of your benefits due to a qualified life event. If you have a qualifying life event and want to make changes to your benefits, log into myAGBenefits or call the AGBenefits Service Center at (877) 213-6240. Health Care/Dental/Vision If you need to change your benefit elections due to a life event change, the change in coverage must be consistent with the family status change. For example, if you have a divorce, you may remove dependents from coverage or you may add coverage for yourself and your dependents. You have up to 30 days after the qualifying event to make the change. Your dropped dependents may be eligible for continuation of coverage under COBRA. You must cancel your former spouse’s coverage up to 30 days after the qualifying event. Life & AD&D Insurance If you have coverage, you must cancel your former spouse’s coverage after the qualifying event. You can also add Optional Life insurance and/or Optional Family AD&D. Your former spouse and/or dependents may convert all or part of his/her life insurance to an individual whole life insurance contract up to 31 days after the change in benefits (45 days from the date the conversion notice is given to the former spouse, if the notice is given more than 15 days but less than 90 days after the date benefits were terminated or reduced). There is no conversion option for AD&D coverage. It is your responsibility to notify the AGBenefits Service Center to cancel the policy of a former spouse. Health Savings Accounts Your eligibility to make contributions to an HSA can change mid-year for many reasons. For help determining your prorated HSA contributions after a change, go here: HSA Contributions - mid-year changes. You can make changes to your pretax contributions at anytime during the year by logging into myAGBenefits. Go to: Change my Benefits>Events>Update HSA Contributions. Flexible Spending Accounts You may want to make a change to your Flexible Spending Account (FSA) election if you experience a divorce, annulment or legal separation. The American Greetings Healthcare Flexible Spending Account and Dependent Care Flexible Spending Account enables you to use pre-tax dollars to pay for eligible medical, dental, vision (“limited purpose” if enrolled in an H.S.A.) and dependent care expenses. You have up to 30 days after the qualifying event to make the change. Retirement Savings Plan If you divorce and have designated your former spouse as beneficiary, this designation may remain in effect until you change it or remarry (in which case your new spouse will automatically become your sole beneficiary). Employee Assistance Program (EAP) Going through a divorce, annulment, or legal separation can be an extremely emotional and stressful time. American Greetings provides free assistance and information to all AG benefits eligible associates, regardless of plan enrollment through the Employee Assistance Program.
